I have also tried to bypass the problem by using swiftshader 3.0, however, this does not work either. I have updated to the latest graphics card drivers and updated directx to the latest version as well as backdating it to directx 9.0c but i keep on getting this error. It's a Dell machine and has an ATI x1300 graphics card which has full DirectX® 9 Shader Model 3.0 support. I have installed Farming Simulator 2013 for my nephew and i get the error 'error could not init 3d system shader model 3.0 is req'. I did some searches on the net and could find a few people with the same error but because they had older graphics cards that did not have directx 9.0 support. The latest graphics cards to have the Shader model 3.0 or higher.
You might have to look for an upgrade for your computer. I use my desktop computer with a Nvidia GeForce 240GT because I like to play high graphic games. I looked it up on the internet and found that my video graphics are not up to snuff as they are intergrated graphics (on the motherboard). It is important to always have your DirectX updated to the latest version you can do so by clicking on the DirectX link at the bottom!!!
